How does Care.com work?

Mother needs a cleaning lady…do you pay the cleaner through the web site? Is an annual subscription necessary?

For just cleaning look in her local Facebook page for recommendations. Care.com has a monthly fee and is mostly for finding babysitters, nannie, elder in home care.

I am stuck. Been looking for recommendations for months. There is no neighborhood facebook page. They are elderly wouldn’t Care.com be a good place to find someone to do light housekeeping? Do they charge $12/month?

You do not want to pay for care if you just need a cleaning person.

Ok I see that’s not worth paying for just to get a cleaner every 2 weeks.

These are some strange responses. I feel like these responders have never actually used care.

Get a short term subscription to care. Then, cancel once you have hired a reliable person. I have gone off and on care for years hiring different people. You don’t keep the subscription going once you find someone.

Also, care has multiple categories — childcare, elder care and housekeeping. You can search by category.

Care does have a feature that lets you pay the people working for you, but I have never used it. You don’t have to pay them through care.

I don't know anything about Care.com, but if there is no neighborhood facebook page, there are other ways to find someone through word of mouth.
Does your mom go to church or other house of worship? What about your mom's neighbors?

Ok this is OP and this is exactly what I need. If I can use the service to help mom find someone and she can pay them directly that’s what we need…and cancel the subscription once we hire someone. Sounds kind of like Angie’s list where you pay the subscription fee to find the contractors you need but you pay the contractors directly.

Hire a cleaning service. That way the worker will be properly bonded and insured.
