Not my work emergency

Anonymous
Have you ever met someone that want you to think their work emergency is your work emergency?

I quoted extra money on a short-order rush project. The person took several days to reply, was non-committal, did not produce the items needed and then wants me in a meeting on Memorial Day weekend?

Come on. Common sense, we had all week to get this started. Don't ask for a meeting on my weekend. Your emergency is not my emergency.

I recently had to fire a client due to this issue.

Monday- they call to say they have a rush project can we get it done "this week"
Monday- I rush around to get an estimate and make sure I have a contractor that can get it done.
Tues-Thurs: don't hear from client
Fri: hear from client, they change the parameters a bit trying to pay less, and ask if we can get it done by Monday COB.
Sat.-Mon.: We bust a** to finish the project
Then client takes another week to actually approve the work and has a bunch of changes.

First time I said yes but no discount. 2nd time I raised my rate by 30%. 3rd time I raised the rate again, but, got a bunch of nonsense about how I was "gouging" them. They just got in touch with me on Monday. Decided life is to short to deal with this b*****.

A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

An old coworker use to say that and I think they were wise words.

Agree. It just gets worse and worse with these people.

^^This. I also had an Aunt who would say “Don’t go around picking up other people’s monkeys.”

Lol! I've gotten enough of these projects recently that I now see it coming from a far distance.

"I have a rush project"
"I also will provide no collaterals that you ask for"
"I also will ask you status of project when I've done nothing that you've asked"
"I believe I've done something by emailing you"
"I also will sit on said rush project and not approve for a week, thus the time clock runs out"

Most projects aren't rush projects. The managers are filled with hot air and take up most of the time that should be spent on the assembly line.

My procrastinating bosses at my company do this to our law firm all the time. A situation needs resolution, but they back burner it for weeks until it becomes a five alarm fire, and they email our lawyers on Friday afternoon that they need legal paperwork by Monday morning. Or this weekend, by Tuesday morning. So very dysfunctional and disrespectful

I am a procrastinator with poor time mgmt skills. I keep this in mind often because it’s not fair to put my crap on other people. Being a mature adult means that I have to plan better if it’s not an assignment I can do on my own.
