Bathroom Renovation - No Change to Floorplan

Anonymous
Does anyone have recent experience with a small bathroom renovation cost and timeline? We need to renovate an upstairs hall bathroom that's shared by two boys - tub/shower, two sinks, toilet. We are not looking for anything fancy, but there are a few issues with the old fixtures and we will need to upgrade eventually, and i'm wondering if it's better to do it now vs. buying new fixtures and not addressing the floor, cabinets, etc. Is it possible to replace tub/shower, install two sinks and vanities, new tile floor, new toilet for $15k?

We just did but did 1 sink not 2. About 20k including materials, took about 2 weeks

We are doing this but with 1 sink and higher end materials/fixtures. $28k.

I don’t think $15k is likely, but it depends on the age of the bathroom (because of the likelihood of a mortar bed under the tile) and your willingness to find and manage cheaper labor.

We did in the fall of 2021. Maybe $17K (?). Built new shower, new toilet, new flooring, new vanity/sink. Took maybe a month?

We received three estimates recently ranging from $27 - $44K for a similar situation.

what size is the bathroom? Depending on the size I think you may be able to get it done for under $20,000.

OP here, thanks for all of the responses.

It's a bath/shower wide, so ~5 feet, and maybe 10 feet deep. Not very big, just a regular hall bath in a colonial. Seems crazy that it would cost so much, but not surprising. I'm in no way skilled enough to try to do it on my own!

I'm the OP of a different thread and being quoted ~$15k just to re-do my shower with no fancy upgrades!

You can absolutely do a bathroom of this size for less than $20K. Choose your tiles and fixtures wisely. Are you installing a new bath or just a shower? Bathtubs can get pricey. Most important, do not skimp on proper waterproofing behind the shower and tub. Read up on Schluter KERDI, Redgard, etc. Ask the contractors what methods they use; if they don't have a clear answer or talk about tiling over sheetrock, move on. A cheap install that has to be ripped out is an expensive install.

Yeah, I just paid $9k ($11k including new frameless door) to tear out and replace a 3'x5' shower only.

Any contractor using Kerdi or other similar systems is going to charge more than $20k for a bathroom. The people charging less than that are handymen who call backer board with nothing over it "waterproofing".
