Infertility Support and Discussion

I had my first IUI a couple weeks ago and am supposed to go in for my test tomorrow. What's the deal with this -- do you find out right away or does a nurse call you with the result? I figure that whether it's pos or neg, I will have a lot of questions for the doc and curious whether I'll get that opportunity.
I did a HPT at 11dpo and it was negative, so I kinda figured that was the deal this time. But now I am realizing that I probably should have started my period a day or so ago, so my hopes are starting to rise a bit. But then I read that prometrium (which I started last week) can totally screw with your cycle, so now I'm just confused. Ack! |
| I suppose it depends on where you go. With SG you go in and they draw some blood and that is it. You get a call later in the day telling you if it was positive or negative and if positive the number. If it is positive you schedule another beta in two days (you do three). |

You won't find out right there - most clinics do bloodwork in the mornings and send everything out to the lab and then a nurse calls you later in the day with your results. Like PP, I was at SG also and that's how it worked. I only did 2 betas when I got my BFP; they were happy with the numbers and didn't do a third, but PP is right, they usually do 3, each about 48 hrs apart. There's a chance your doctor will call you, but at least at SG, it's usually a nurse. My dr. only called me once, I think.
I know it's hard to wait but if I were you, I'd try not think much one way or the other until you get the results. The prometrium will most likely prevent you from starting your period (it does for most people), so don't read anything into your period being late yet. The negative test at 11dpo could have been too early, though, so really anything's possible at this point. Good luck - I hope it's positive! |
| Good luck! Baby dust baby dust. Just remember that even if you are pregnant, you have to continue to repeat bloodwork and the beta numbers have to double about every 2 days. It can be very stressful - hopefully you'll get GREAT numbers and you'll double like a champ. If you don't...just know that it is possible to be a little pregnant. I think a 'pregnant' beta is about anything over 20. My first beta numbers were 80 (ended in m/s at 8.5 weeks), and 240 -- single pregnancy! whoo hoo. Best of luck! Remember IUI's have about 15% percent success rate depending on age, so the more you do the better you chances. |
