DS is 11, going to sleep away camp for the first time this summer for a whole month, in the NE. It's a classic style camp - lakeside, cabins, campfires, etc. Bathrooms/showers are in the cabins.
I'm trying to figure out what footwear to send him with. The supply list says 2 pairs sneakers, 1-2 pairs sandals/flip flops, and a pair of "waterproof boots/shoes". Sneakers are easy. Then I'll send his reef flip flops (comfy, not technically waterproof). Do kids typically bring closed toe water shoes for camp, even in their tween years? Like keens or crocs? Or can he do something lower key like Tevas (which I doubt are very popular with kids, but are soooo much more comfortable than the full on water shoe). |
| My son switched from keens to tevas when he outgrew kids' keens and didn't like adult keens. The advantage of keens, though, is they can be worn outside the water -- his camp doesn't allow open toed shoes on land (other than flip flops for going to the bathroom). |
| And no Crocs. They don't stay on feet so aren't appropriate for water sports and aren't safe on land. |
| Crocs and sneakers. They’ll be in crocs 90% of the time. |
At my DD’s all-girls camp, they wear crocs nonstop. |
| I send crocs for the showers since they are so insistent on closed toes but also need shower shoes |
| Sneakers, crocs and a shower slide. My kids don’t do serious hiking/camp outs but if yours might, I’d include the waterproof hiking boot/shoe. |
| Crocs, athletic shoes, court shoes (if your son will be playing tennis), Tevas. My son doesn’t like the hard plastic tevas, but is between kid and men sizes. So I buy him the women’s original ones in a neutral color |
| Absolutely sneakers and hiking shoes. |
