MCPS SPED teacher…

Anonymous
I am currently a special education teacher in two elementary schools in MCPS. I have been involuntarily transferred to two schools for the next school year. Being at two schools has been extremely stressful and particularly difficult because of mental health issues. I am trying to get a full time position at one school. I know that Human Resources is just interested in filling the positions. I’d like to know if anyone is in a similar situation and can offer any suggestions on how to resolve this. I’d also like to know if there is a county or state formula that provides details for special education allocations. It seems very arbitrary. Thanks for any help!

I think positions are set months before and it has to do with current caseloads and predictions about next years caseloads as well as funding. I think you just have to keep applying to full time positions when you see them opening up.

Can you switch to being a HS Sped teacher.
Our HS is always looking to fill Sped positions.
It is a lot of work though. The paperwork is unbelievable

Did you apply to the new school that opened up county? I'm sorry they're forcing you between 2 schools, especially when we need more Special Ed teachers. A teacher might be leaving my DC MCPS middle school. Keep looking and applying.
