Car for very tall new driver

Anonymous
We need a car for our kid to drive. He is 6’4” and his head touches the roof in our Subaru Crosstrek. We aren’t car people, and all I want is a car with all the safety features and that he fits in. Probably a small SUV? And I’d like to not spend more than I have to.

What would be at the top of your list for these needs?

We’d prefer used, as I have a visceral gag reflex when thinking of letting my 16 year old swan around in a new car, no matter how practical.

Im very tall and have always felt comfortable in VWs. You wouldnt expect it but they have more room than you expect. New rav-4s are also good options for tall ppl.

I’m only 5’9” and my head touched the ceiling of a rav4 with a sunroof (I have an unusually long torso). I found the forester and CRV have the most headroom for midsize SUVs.

My DS is 6’4” and drives a Nissan Altima.

One with a moonroof. Pro tip: The moonroof must be open in order to confer any benefit to the tall driver.

Most full size pick-up trucks will provide adequate head space.

My 6’5” brother fits in boxy cars, such as Kia Soul, Nissan Cube.

Do consider whether his height is in his legs or torso. I think that might make a difference. e.g., I am only 5'8, but have long legs, so I usually position the seat much further back than my 6' husband who has a longer torso......Make sure the seat adjustments allow the seat height to move up and down, not just back and forward and back tilt.
