My MIL is in the hospital and will be discharged tomorrow. My FIL needs help getting her into the house, and the hospital hasn’t been much help. Anyone know a local medical transport company We could call? This is in Chevy Chase MD |
Ask the social worker or case manager in the hospital - they are discharge planners. Unfortunately, Medicare only covers the cost of an ambulance if a patient is bedbound, and private pay can be somewhere around $400. Wheelchair vans are cheaper but the driver will not help a patient up the steps, etc. |
The hospital social worker can arrange medical transport. My aunt uses it all the time to go between her nursing home and the hospital. If she uses a wheelchair it’s about $150 but if she needs to use a stretcher then it’s around $400. Medicare doesn’t pay as mentioned above. |
