Senior Awards: State Merit Scholastic Awards

Apparently Senior awards night includes recognition of the top 5% of each graduating class, pursuant to a Maryland statute (https://govt.westlaw.com/mdc/Document/ND7B72AE0A7E011DBB5DDAC3692B918BC?viewType=FullText&originationContext=documenttoc&transitionType=CategoryPageItem&contextData=(sc.Default))

Given that MCPS doesn't rank its students (or at least doesn't tell students their rankings), anyone know from prior year experience (or other actual knowledge) how the top 5% is calculated?

Excellent question. I can't find any info online, except a few non-MCPS schools that announced their winners on their websites.

MCPS may not publish ranks but they know all the GPAs.

From the GPA.

If you're interested, you can ask whether the school uses the weighted or unweighted GPA.
