Olney Children in the Shoe

Anonymous
Saw on another DC parents board that the Olney location of the Children in the Shoe is closed for some extended period of time. Anyone know what's happening there? Is it a building specific issue? A licensing/management concern that might be relevant for other Shoe locations?

On May 10, 2023, the Maryland State Department of Education’s Division of Early Childhood, Office of Child Care
(OCC) conducted a complaint inspection at the Children in the Shoe-Olney Child Care Center, following a report
from the Center that a child left the Center’s playground on May 8, 2023. Due to a lack of appropriate supervision,
the child was unaccounted for outside until a staff member realized that the child was missing and notified the
Center’s Executive Director. In response, all available staff members were mobilized to search for the missing child.
Ultimately, the child was located by three women in a neighboring area who contacted the police. It was reported
that the child had been missing for about 35 minutes.

And "left the playground" = scaled a 6 foot chain link fence.

They are right off Georgia Ave too. That could have been a worse outcome.

Thankfully it was the back fence!

How do you not notice a child climbing a tall fence? 😲

It's never been spelled out, but I believe "unsupervised" = the class went inside and this kid was left on the playground alone. Mischief ensued.

Why are they closing 2 weeks for this? I read on facebook that some of the kids were being transferred to Bethesda locations.

Right now I think most of us are hoping they are going to reopen soon and having Blippi watch our kids like during covid.
