Outback vs. Ascent

Anonymous
Does anyone have experience with both? I recently revisited the Outback and I love all the new features. While I was at the dealer, I also test drove an Ascent b/c it was close in price (different trim levels) and I was curious. TBH, I kind of preferred the Ascent, but not by a lot. I am a little worried about fuel efficiency since we tend to buy more efficient cars. We don't have a big family, so I don't *need* a 3rd row. Any advice?

We love our outback. The length is perfect for being able to transport stuff with the seats folded but not so large that I feel uncomfortable driving it. We did t consider the Assent as it’s too big

We LOVE our ascent - but we are a family of 5 . So I think it depends on your usage. We have captain chairs in the second row and the 3rd row up at all times pretty much. We also have a Pilot and much prefer the ascent. The outback is obviously smaller and I don't love the outback when we drove it but it also didn't work well for our family.

I liked everything about the Ascent except for the exterior styling. I just really didn't want to walk up to it in a parking lot. I wish I wasn't so shallow but I am. Other than that it seemed like a good option.

Family of four. I love my Outback and desperately wish they had a hybrid model.

Same. Suburu, are you listening??

Need to get the turbocharger if you get the Ascent. Otherwise it’s sluggish AF.

Hybrid Forester in the next two years, no word on the Outback.

Subaru invested a ton of money in battery production in Japan. They are basically giving up on the US market, as they don’t get any of the tax credits under the JOBS Act.

This why I ended up not getting either one of them.

We have both. They feel pretty different to me driving wise. The Outback is a car that's good for zipping around town, but we also are comfortable in it on road trips. The Ascent feels like a truck, sits up high when driving. The seats in both feel the same, not uncomfortable, but not plush. The Ascent fits kid sport equipment much better. The third row in the Ascent is comfortable and we use it when family visits.

I really do not like to over-buy with a car. If the Outback meets all of your family's needs 99% of the time, I just don't know why you go with the larger vehicle. The smaller one will be easier to park and maneuver, get better gas mileage. And it's not like it's a compact car, an Outback is a decent sized car.

What happened to the Solterra?

We have a Forester and like the Ascent, but want a hybrid. Next car will probably be a Highlander for that reason.
