How is Eastern Mass different from Western Mass?

Curious to hear the takes of those who know the Bay State.

Western Mass is much more working class, more low rent drug problems like they have in Ohio, more rural pursuits like hunting. It’s pretty different. But it’s still probably more similar to eastern mass than it is to Alabama, if thaT makes sense. Plus there are pockets across western mass that are quite different. Lenox and Northampton are pretty different from belchertown and Pittsfield.

To add to what's posted above, much of Eastern Mass is part of the Greater Boston area, so you've got a lot more economic opportunities there, though there are depressed mill towns throughout the state. Western Mass is beautiful.

Also there are only a few main roads in Western Mass so even places that look relatively close by can take time to travel between.

Agree with this, plus Amherst and Northampton are college towns, Lennox area is pretty upscale, and Western Mass is beautiful and rural.

Eastern Mass is suburban, often well- educated, lots of traffic, and high cost of living. Nice beach towns, lots of history, and lots of colleges/universities.

In general, both are liberal, left of center.
