Egg retrieval for 2 follicles

Anonymous
After two cancelled ivf cycles, we are trying ivf for the 3rd time. Unfortunately, I still have only 2 follicles. I have a low ovarian reserve, so I don’t know if the situation will get better. The doctor is leaving the decision up to me whether to retrieve the eggs or cancel. Recommendations on a course of action?

Of course why not? I also have DOR and only had one follicle. It was removed and now that kid is 9.

I did IUI with 2 follicles and got pregnant. Can you convert?

Is your doc certain you only have 2? When I did IVF they retrieved almost twice as many follicles as were identified on my last US before retrieval. I don’t know if that is unusual or not, but you might ask your doc how sure s/he is about the 2.

I would just do it to shut the door. What clinic are you at?

Same situation as you. If it’s covered by your insurance then proceed, if not, then I’d convert to IUI.

I only had 3 follicles. I have twins who are 9 years old now. Don't discount it. It's not always about the numbers, but about quality.

With two canceled cycles already, this is likely all you’re going to get. Go to retrieval so you can at least see how the quality is in the lab. That’s valuable information going forward. I’m sorry you’re in this position, OP. It’s really hard, I know.

you need to go to a clinic that is well versed in DOR. Good luck

How old are you? Two follicles in a young person might lead to a better outcome than 10 follicles in an older person.

I’d go ahead bc you will get valuable info from the quality of the eggs. What clinic are you at? After much frustration locally, I switched to CCRM in CO and their tests, protocols, etc seemed miles ahead of here. I only made a few quick visits and was successful on my first cycle there. If this cycle doesn’t work, I’d switch to there immediately

OP here. I’m 35.

Go for it. It only takes one. Mine is now 16.

of course you go for it! as others have said it only takes one and is all about quality and you should be in a good spot at 35 for quality.

have you considered or discussed ovarian PRP? Research is promising, though I know only some clinics in the area are doing it.
