Meridian HS on-campus rape

This is a horrible and scary story. And it sounds like the person did it to someone else off campus after raping someone at the school.

Horrible

I misread. The off campus attack was before the on campus attack. I hope the victims get help and the alleged rapist gets tried as an adult.

Kiiiiiinda doubt it…

Is it just me or are high schools out of control now?

If student safety was a top priority, they wouldn’t let students roam freely whenever and wherever they want with no accountability. But then that might require admin to admit that maybe Falls Church isn’t the utopia they like to suggest.

I think it would be better if he were tried as a juvenile. A lot of adult rape cases either don’t rise to the beyond a reasonable doubt standard and there is no conviction or they get 18 months and then are free to do it again. In juvenile court you still have the BARD standard but it feels like there are more convictions and there is punishment plus rehabilitation efforts instead of just punishment. Plus the victim’s details aren’t public record. I sort of wish rapists were c***rated but the adult system isn’t more likely to stop them from doing it again.

^ this is based on my experience in criminal law in both the adult and juvenile systems, btw.

At least they expelled him, rather than let the rapist stay in school (like in Alexandria).

Oh good lord.

It’s not hard for kids to get access to the school buildings as they’re used for sports and other activities after school all the time. Would you rather have a system where kids have to get on a list for basketball practices after hours and an arduous check in process?

Horrible that this happened and it’s horrible it was on school grounds. But perhaps it being on school grounds ensured accountability. The kid (an 8th grader) was immediately expelled. The school made sure the cops investigated.

Other Than the rape not happening, I’m not sure what more anyone could ask for.

I agree with PP - no one is denying this is horrible and that outrage is warranted in any situation like this. I am reassured that the perp was immediately expelled and that there was accountability. As another PP said, this has not always happened in other locations (how many times have sexual predators, vicious bullies and kids with guns been immediately allowed back in ACPS schools). NO school district or workplace or any place is safe from disgusting predators but I am glad that at least parents here can know there are consequences to prohibit these things happening more routinely.

It says the incident happened on school grounds, not in the school. Do you believe students shouldn't be allowed on school grounds after school hours? Just in FCC or everywhere? Also, admin notified the community of these incidents, does that sound like they are pretending FCC is utopia?

The lame-duck principal waves away any report of misbehavior with “No, they’re VERY well behaved” and changes the subject and defends letting students go wherever they want, whenever they want. But I guess that’s what happens when you hire a guy who couldn’t even cut it as an AP at TC Williams to run your “premier” high school.

Why do people on DCUM hate falls church and its schools so much?

Speaking the truth isn’t the same thing as hate.
