VASRA Rowing - Congrats to McLean & Wakefield

Anonymous
Congratulations to the McLean boys and Wakefield girls on winning the VASRA state rowing championships today. Third win in a row for Wakefield girls and fourth in the last five years for the McLean boys. The McLean boys also swept all four of the varsity eight races (1V, 2V, 3V, and 4V) this year. Well done, McLean and Wakefield.

Thanks for the kind notes.

It’s a good sport, especially for getting recruited.

You've clearly never done a 2K test.

All HS kids who row should be commended - it's an incredibly demanding sport that requires total unity of effort and concentration in the boat. Congrats to McLean and Wakefield!

Its not one for me, but those who do it, love it. So there must be something that makes it fun/satisfying. And I've heard it described as the ultimate team sport. Your team is only as good as its weakest link. "Every piece matters."

Congrats to both teams. Two very impressive accomplishments

LOL how do you figure? It's athletic and requires skill. What else makes a sport? A ball? Wtf.

You mean it's not a GAME. It's an Olympic sport and likely the most physically demanding one. You have got a be a bored 15 year old.

The kids who row tend not to be the biggest or fastest kids, or those with the most hand/eye coordination. But they train hard and develop endurance and teamwork skills - and they certainly compete with other boats. And kids who row at programs like McLean and Wakefield definitely get recruited by colleges as do kids as some of the area's other top programs like St. Albans, J-R and B-CC.

My kid lost to Wakefield in the girls 1V final, and anyone who doesn't think rowing is a sport hasn't seen what goes into the training and physical effort involved, the tiny stroke changes that make a difference, and the synchronized effort by the team.

This wasn't a sport I was familiar with until my daughter started rowing, but it is incredibly physically demanding.

Congrats to Wakefield and McLean! Wakefield, we hope to beat you next year.

It is a sport but I would say it ranks towards the middle or toward the bottom in all the categories that make a sport difficult

It's funny that you seem to think your opinion carries any weight.

Congrats to Wakefield, Yorktown and Woodson!
That girls 1v8 final was an amazing race. All of the girls in that final worked so hard to be there. Looking forward to Stotesbury this week!
