| We have a 14x18 living room (So not too big) -- trying to decide mount TV over fireplace. What do you all think - yay or nay for a TV over fireplace? |
| nay |
| Nay. It’s an uncomfortable height to watch TV. |
|
This has been solved: mount it on a system that lets it be lowered.

| It all comes down to personal preference…some think it’s fine, others think it’s sacrilege. If you have nowhere else to put it, I think it’s fine, but you do need to have your seating far back enough to be able to view it comfortably. |
| If you have to, I would spend the money for a mount that can be lowered and a frame tv. It’s not that it “fools” you into thinking it’s art but it is less obtrusive than a big black screen or one that’s fully lit up with a picture. |
|
We have no choice but to put it there. Ours is not too high either. It's also a frame TV.
Stand by for the pearl-clutchers. |
| Nay |
| Nobody who truly understands home theater would ever do it. But if you're 70 and all you do is watch fox news, go for it |
| Everyone here will freak out about how it's gauche or not the right angle. We've done it and find it totally fine for us. It is a Frame TV so looks like art when it's off. |
I must ask - WHAT is wrong with you? |
+1. I don't love it but all the other walls in our main level living space are covered in windows. |
| I’d never choose it if I had another option. If there’s no other option, get the swivel mount so you can lower it. |
+1000 for the mantelmount. We installed one when we remodeled and it’s awesome. |
| We have a two floor family and open concept kitchen/dining room. The tv is over the fire place and mounted so it can moved in all directions. Works perfectly for our space |
