I want to put a bike rack on my Toyota Highlander, and then never take it off. But I also want to be able to put groceries in the back of the car, including through the pop-up rear window.
Anyone have a bike rack that swings away from the rear door/solves this set of parameters? |

“I want to permanently install a bike rack but I don’t want it to be in the way of anything or compromise access/liftgate function at all”.
It doesn’t work like that. Sorry. |
| Get a hitch. |

You want convenience, quality and ease of use? 1-Up makes heavy duty hitch mounted racks and they have an add-on for it to swing away from the trunk. It'll add up quickly though...these are metal and made in the USA.

We have a hitch mounted yamika that folds down to access rear door FYI you have to remove them to servide the car and get car wash. It’s like 10 minutes with the key and bolt (you gotta spin it). |

You really want to never remove the bike rack?
We have a Thule hitch rack for our minivan, and it can fold down. I did not get the kind that swings away because it was a lot more expensive (and heavier), but it was certainly available 10 years ago. How often are you biking that you're never going to take the rack off? As long as it folds down, I suppose it's not really an issue. |
