Eurovision: is anyone following?

Anonymous
My family has been reading about this year’s group and can’t wait to see the finale Saturday night.

Is anyone else following?

Of course. I've been a huge fan for 15 years. Always host a big party for the finale. This year will be a great one, no doubt.

No, and I'm European. It's all very political, outfits and personalities count more than musical ability... so, no.

The fact that Edgar Allen Poe appears in one of the entries should delight those of us in the DC-Baltimore area. Too bad the first position is the kiss of death.

More of a reason to follow it.

Go to YouTube and look up the videos "Overthinking Eurovision." They're smart, incredibly well-informed about every act and song (and each country's internal competitions to choose its Eurovision entry), and they're FUNNY. Bonus: Lots and lots of clips from music videos of the countries' entries and earlier rounds of competiitons to become Eurovision representatives. Most of the world only sees the finals -- a lot goes on before that.

The guy who hosts and apparently also writes Overthinking Eurovision clearly loves the whole thing but also has a great sense of humor about how ludicrous and bizarre it is, too. He's not mocking Eurovision per se, and he does talk about the (supposed) deeper meanings behind some songs, yet he also recognizes the silliness of much of it.

We don't even follow Eurovision really but we've enjoyed those videos. The costumes alone are worth watching.

I hope Fire Saga does well this year!

Long live Fire Saga!

Eurovision fans, if you're not aware -- see the movie "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga." It's on Netflix. Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams as an Icelandic music duo trying to compete in Eurovision. Lots of Eurovision performers turn up in cameos and Dan Stevens (from Downton Abbey!) is hilarious. and sweet, as the Russian competitor. Fun movie if you "get" Eurovision!
