My brother in law is a us citizen. Has a lot of debt. Well educated. But only wants to work under the table jobs. Any financial reasons why?

As others have said this is almost always for purposes of tax evasion, so the behavior is likely criminal. He also won't receive credit towards Social Security or Medicare, and may be unpleasantly surprised if he tries to claim benefits when he'd otherwise be eligible based on age. He of course will also be ineligible for unemployment benefits.

Criminal as in money laundering? He always claims that "a check is coming from Singapore"

I would go with so they can't garnish his wages. He probably owes taxes and the IRS is after him.

It happens all of the time.

My ex only works under the table. He owes thousands in unpaid CS.

Yeah he is trump all right.

But educate me—-can’t the irs just go after him? What fuss it gave to do with him working and having taxes withheld?
