Is it safe to be in the upper level of my home while asbestos remediation remove tiles in a room downstairs? They said it's fine, that they cover it with wet substance first, plus lay plastic seal over area plus filters etc. Experience?
I would absolutely not take this risk. We were required to leave as soon as our contractor discovered they cut into asbestos and our insurance paid for an extended stay hotel throughout. So worth it.
If you think it will stress you out, it could be worth a hotel room. It only takes a few days and the smell is really awful.
Theoretically, if they are doing it properly, yes, it's safe. Generally, these contractors are pretty diligent because they are so heavily regulated.

Tiles? I'd be fine with that. They're not grinding them into sand. Also, I had my tiles tested before I removed them. Test results showed about 2% asbestos.
The other insulation-type material? Nope, I'd be at a hotel. |
Just put leveler on top and leave them.
For tiles it's probably safe but I still would not stay. Most important is to make sure they are completely sealed off and clean everything up.
