So is this brand... ok for a 40 something mom?
My late teen self was not a fan in the 90s. Well, ok I'm not being honest. I (secretly) loved the catalogue of attractive men frolicking in swimsuits that they used to put out way back when, but back then, I (along with many of my friends back then) never shopped there, it was too pricy for cheap me and I was put off by the guy in his boxers in the mall drawing people into the store even if I wouldn't admit I liked the catalogue. And now my early 40s self is.... drawn to it somehow? Finding cute things on the clearance website and wondering if I might try them. (Full disclosure, I can't afford much, but need some cute items for work and summer) |
| They must have done a total rebrand or hired a new creative director because their clothes are awesome. Nothing like the $39 lace trimmed tank tops (what I would give to have that money back). Kudos to them for figuring out that us late 30s/early 40s women will come back like a moth to a flame..... |
| It's more than ok for a 40-something mom- it's designed for you! A&F is for millennial moms now. (I am one, and most of my jeans and shorts are from there). |
| What? I thought this was still a tween/teen brand. If anyone cares to post links of stuff they like and find appropriate for us middle-aged adults, I would be interested. |

They rebranded. It's size inclusive and branded as a one-stop shop for 30 and 40 somethings (they now carry basic suiting, black pants, etc. too, so you can get work clothing there).

yup. bought 3 pairs of jeans there in the last year.
i cannot believe it, but the jeans fit great, vanity sizing galore, and this 40 year old has upgraded her skinny jeans! |
Ha ok their marketing is working then! I keep seeing them pop up and finding stuff cute, but I didn't used to think they were that great! So is their sizing more for women vs. teens then? I'm a small at Anne Taylor in tops, but if I were to say, purchase something at American Eagle, I'd size up. I am a small if the fit is loose, or medium if it's fitted.... -OP |
It's similar to mainstream grownup brands - Gap, Madewell, J Crew, etc. I order my usual size. The only thing is that some of their dresses can be quite short, so I order the long option in dresses when they have it (I'm 5'7") |

Women who are more pear-shaped love their "curve love" jeans for eliminating the waist-gap problem.
I personally have the opposite of that body type, and I buy the regular fit, but throwing that out there for others who may be more blessed in that department |
| Yup they were in bad shape like many stores ten years ago and did a rebrand to reach their former shoppers from the 90s, now 40 year old moms. I’m 45 and I buy my jeans there or paige. I am definitely not “curvy” but my thighs I guess are a size bigger than my waist (though I’m just a pretty regular waspy size 2/4) and I really like their curve love denim. I also bought twenty pairs of denim shorts this spring to find a couple to keep. I pick up other stuff randomly too - their linen pants are nice quality, and I have a few bodysuits to channel 1992. |

Truly one of the most successful rebrands since...ever!
I love their denim -- bonus that it comes in extra short (I'm 5'3") -- (as well as short, regular, and tall), work-wear staples (linen blazers, trousers, ribbed fitted sweaters), and casual everyday staples (things like a striped tank top, e.g.). They have cute summer dresses as well (and the petite option is usually a great cut). I'm even liking their active line - YPB. Price points are good to begin with, and they have sales often. (I'm 41, fwiw.) *I actually think their tops run TTS, if not a little small. I'm usually an XS in tops at a lot of places, but at A&F I tend to like the fit of small better.** |
| I own a few of their bodysuits and I like them. Sometimes I look on their website and find a few things I really love. |
| I don’t care if it’s a new company or the same brand or whatever, I will never. Sorry! Bye! Life is too short. |
As an aside, their kids line is actually great for tweens/teens. I have a skinny 14 yo and their jeans and shorts are perfect for her. I can see in the comments that some petite women buy their jeans from the kids' sizes because they go up to a 17, I think, and the prices are cheaper than women's sizes. |
