I am 43 and I can't get the scale or the circumference of my waist to go down. Eating less and healthier (although I still struggle with binge eating) and exercising 5 days per week - almost one month now and zero results. I am very short so it doesn't take much for me to gain weight.
Tell me about Ozempic. How do I get it? Do I need a prescription? Are there other meds I should try - everything I see seems so gimicky so I have no idea what to try? If you take Ozempic, what were your results? What are the side effects? |
prescription only. |
Ozempic is a diabetic medication that has a weight loss side effect. If you have diabetes you should be seeing a doctor to monitor it. This is not OTC medication. |
Yeah, talk to your doctor. They can tell you if you’re a candidate and prescribe it if appropriate. Just your primary care doctor is fine. They need a medical history and some blood work. |
I use it for weight loss only. I go to a weight loss clinic. When I started I was only slightly obese with high blood pressure. My insurance would not cover it. I pay 1k ever 6 weeks for it.
I wouldn’t go to your PCP. They harbor a lot of ignorant misconceptions. |
Ozempic is if you are pre-diabetic, or diabetic.
You can ask your primary care doc to write you a prescription for Wegovy, which is the exact same medicine but marketed for weight loss. Then you'll have to see if your insurance covers it - I am fortunate mine does, I only pay $25 a month If your primary care doc won't write you the rx, do a search, there are many online weight-loss clinics that will write it for you, but it will cost addition money (more than just the drug) |
You might as well go to your PCP first though. They may well prescribe it happily, as mine did. If they don’t, you can always go elsewhere. It would be good to at least hear your PCP out about why if they don’t think it’s a good idea. |
If you don't know you need a prescription, you probably also don't know that you have to inject it. It's not a pill. |
But you can also take Rybelsus, which is the same thing, and is a pill. |
Rybelsus is a pill, though. Same medication in a different delivery system. |
I get it from my PCP, and go there for weekly injections. It's cheaper than getting it from the pharmacy. My insurance doesn't cover it.
It's worked for me so far, down 18 lbs in 2.5 months. And my A1C levels are in the normal range now. It makes calorie restriction very easy - you just can't eat that much, nor do you want to. |

You can also try naltrexone. |
Ozempic is a drug for diabetics and pre-diabetics. You want Wegovy, that's for obesity. |
Not nearly as effective |
