Getting Sued

Anonymous
My kid had an accident a few weeks ago. Short story lady got off highway did not merge then realized lane was ending cut over quickly her left rear bumper and daughters right front bumper hit each other.

She tried to claim my insurance. But they called it a she said, he said type deal. No cops, no police report. We each pay our own repairs.

Now she is claiming she bumped her head and hired a lawyer and is serving my insurance company, me as owner of car and my kid.

I need this like a hole in the head. It happened in Maryland.

What is next?

See if there are cameras on that stretch of the road.

Your insurance company will handle it.

I know it's easier said than done but try not to stress. Your insurance has seen its fair share of conartists. It will end up fine.

You insurance company will give them a nuisance settlement. Your rates may or may not go up

Your insurance will handle it. I was sued for nearly a million dollars because of a car accident that was my fault. They settled within my policy limits.

She is really shady.

People with legitimate injuries don’t sue that soon after a crash. They’re focused on recovery.

Always call the police and get a report.

Same here, about a year ago. Fortunately, 2 things happened.
1-my kid had taken photos (they were trying to getting the license plate, and it turns out with what little damage there was, the kind of accident the lady claimed happened couldn't have happened)
2-the lady had a record of *many* similar lawsuits

The good: the insurance company completely handled it, my kids is off to college in less than 4 months and we didn't lose their college fund to this whacko

The bad: our car insurance went up by over $150/month

Let your insurance company handle it, it's why you've been paying them all these years

Always call the police for an accident report. I made tha mistake once and the person who hit me denied it when my insurance called.

Police only come if there are injuries, not for fender benders.
