My 8th grader is convinced that there is no school after the 8th grade promotion which is on June 12 for his school. Does anyone know if there is any truth in this?
I had eighth graders at two different middle schools last year. One school had the 8th grade field trip the day after the promotion ceremony. The kids didn’t go in after the trip. The other school had their promotion ceremony in the morning and trip in the afternoon and didn’t go in after that day.
This is the norm at the 5 MSCP middles I’ve taught in or had my own kids attend.
Our MCPS MS doesn't have a promotion ceremony.
We don't have a promotion ceremony. I would think if parents are there you can take your kid home.
Ours did not have school once it was done. We took our kid out to a nice lunch after.
That's usually the norm from my experience. The kids have an activity or they're released early to their parents for the day.
The question isn’t if they leave for the afternoon, it’s if they leave for the year and don’t attend school for the remaining days. |
8th graders in school after their promotion is not great. They figure they can't into trouble and just do whatever they want.
It's not the norm at the schools our DCs have attended but I'm sure it happens.
8th graders at our middle school are excused after promotion if they so choose. They can come if they want, but our principal said that their teachers will be taking down classrooms for the summer.
Our 8th grader has her promotion in the evening on June 12 and a field trip to Six Flags on June 14. Not sure what happens on June 13. My guess is that they'll watch movies, socialize with their friends, etc. I can't imagine any 8th graders will go to school on the 15th or 16th. The field trip will likely be the last day for them.
