February trip - warm and direct flights?

Anonymous
I'm looking for a mid winter break somewhere warm with direct flights from any of the DC area airports. I've done Miami but wondering where else might have a direct flight (I.e. Caribbean?). Bringing the family so will need kid-friendly resorts but I think I can find those just about anywhere. The 9 hour flights (with connections) are killers when I'm looking for 4-5 day getaway.

Try the Google flights explore feature and set it to nonstop.

Not many directs to the Caribbean from this area, and some are seasonal or certain days of the week. One of the most frequent is San Juan, Puerto Rico as it can be a gateway to other islands.

Go to Jamaica from BWI. Montego Bay through Southwest.

Budget?

OP. Thanks for Google explore fight idea. I consider myself computer literate but have never seen that!

Budget. ideally spend no more than $500 per person on fights and under $500 per night. I do have points I could use to offset some costs but saw the direct flights to US Virgin islands and Bahamas are $1000+

Grand Cayman from IAD
Aruba from BWI
I'm sure there are others. +1 for google flights explore feature.

Unfortunately flights are expensive around midwinter break. Last Feb we paid about $600 pp for Southwest flights to Punta Cana. We stayed at all all-inclusive for $500/nt and it was lovely but I have no desire to return.

Try Puerto Rico. A couple days in Old San Juan then explore the island. There are calm beaches that are great for kids but not many “resorts.”

For February break at that price point, wanting warm and nonstop, its going to be Florida. Anything else is going to be a connection and/or over $500. (Like, you could probably get to Arizona or California at $500 or less, but with a connection. You could maybe get lucky with a direct at the price. From what I've seen Caribbean is priced higher than that during holiday weeks. On non-peak dates you could get some Caribbean destinations for under $500.) I know this because we too don't have $1k pp to spend on flights.

I think there's a nonstop to Turks & Caicos from Dulles.

I’m interested to know what options you are considering OP. I too would like to travel somewhere warm at that time. But im also on a bit of a budget.

We did PR last Feb, it was lovely. Water had a slight chill to it.

Other non stops I like include St Maarten, Turks, Nassau (may be too chilly).

It's great - but FYI SWA is not on there. You have to go there separately.
