Any one know the history of the summer swim leagues in NoVa? NVSL and CSL overlap geographically and were both founded at around the same time (1956 for NVSL and 1962 for CSL). NVSL is mostly Fairfax County and Arlington while CSL has a lot fewer teams, but is bigger geographically (teams in Loudoun, Arlington, and all over Fairfax County).
There are pools that are practically right next to each other, but one is in CSL an the other is in NVSL. How did that happen? How did pools pick which league to join? |
isn't CSL much smaller pools? |
Not necessarily. There are some big teams. I know ideology is different with NVSL more competitive than CSL. CSL also has the IM included with its A meets which I wish NVSL would do instead of just allowing it in divisionals. There is also the Herndon league, Prince William league and the Country Club League. |
they are different types of pools. NVSL requires that a family have a membership share. In general the CSL pools don't have this type of requirement= e.g. Fort Meyer and Knights of Columbus you pay dues and join for that summer, but the members do not 'own' the pool. NVSL pools the members all 'own' the pool (or the HOA that the members belong to owns the pool.) That is the big difference between the two leagues. |
Nvsl was founded in 1956, a product of jim crow laws, just like the formation of all the private swim clubs in dmv. |
Nope. Not true at all. NVSL requires a pool membership - the only requirement is that it has to be a family membership - no different than Fort Myer. We are not shareholders/owners of the pool that we belong to and we are NVSL. |
Yes, they went to private community pools so that they could keep people of color out. |
He are authorized users and our kids swim NVSL |
