Harris Teeter Grocery Pickup

Anonymous
I’m a long time user of Harris Teeter’s grocery pickup service. I am embarrassed to ask this question but are the online prices higher than they are in store? I am aware that grocery prices have risen generally but I feel like my bill the last few weeks has been about 20%-30% higher than it has been in the recent past (accounting for inflation, I think). Anyone else seeing a difference? I need to take a look at what we are buying but I’m trying to avoid a trip into the store with my receipt to comparison shop!

I don’t think they were in the past, but I noticed Wegmans has an online markup. I wonder if Teeter / Kroger started adopting that model.

Thanks! This is the OP here. This is exactly what I am wondering. They changed the app and pick up process recently and wonder if they incorporate a price difference when they revamped things.

Wegmans has the markup because the service is through Instacart. You don’t get any of the store coupons either. Same with Costco.

The prices are the same.

I was just there today. Bought sun chips for $3.99 (used to be $2.50 on sale) and a cantaloupe $2. Same prices online.

Sun chips are $4.59 if you do curbside at Wegman's and $3.99 in you go in and get them yourself. Cantaloupe is $2.89 for pickup and $2.49 in store.

Thank you so much (from OP). Helpful to know. The last few orders my bill has gone from around $200 for a weekly shop to $270. Time to take a look at my list and trim the fat.

If you order through a 3rd party app (Instacart, door dash etc) that company marks up the retail price - just like if you order delivery through those services - it is at a mark up.
If you order through the actual website or store app - it’s the same price as in store.

The prices seem to be the same, but HT has limited what you can pick up. For some reason they don't include some of the on sale meats or some of the other loss leaders for pickup. And some of their bakery bread. It's perplexing, as it means I don't buy as much to pickup.
