First Birthday party food

What did you serve for a 1st bday party? We have my sons first bday party at our house in 2 weeks and I’m still not sure what to serve. It’ll be 22 people total, all adults besides my son and 2 other kids. Party is at 12:30 so I definitely need to serve lunch food and not just snacks and cake.

Applesauce, ripe banana slices, soft bread, and milk boxes.

It all depends on your budget and whether you prefer to cook/grill or buy food platters. Taco bars, deli trays or pre-made sandwiches, grilling burgers/brats with a salad, BBQ. I'm in a similar situation...my son turns one next month and we are having about 15 adults. My husband will grill chicken thighs, I'm making a salad, and I've ordered a tray of rice pilaf and veggies from a local restaurant. Plus cake. You've got this. Happy birthday to your son and enjoy the party!

I did Panera sandwich catering at my daughters for a similar party, easy and it went well. I have also done Costco subs with success, but that was for a 6th birthday so lots of kids.

The first birthday was mostly attended by adults. It was not really a kid's birthday. We had 50 adults and 5 kids of all ages.

We had a catered hot Indian lunch - (rice pilaf, laccha paranthas, butter chicken, malai kofta, daal makhani, okra, lasooni gobi, non-veg tandoori platter, raita, samosas,). There was pizza too incase any kid wanted pizza. Beer, wine and soft drinks, tea, coffee etc. Dessert was cake, rasmalai, carrot halwa and baklava. We had hired a party lady and a server, so I did not have to do much.

A friend decorated a costco cake to personalize it - costco will do a plain white icing for you if you ask them. We cut the cake and took pictures as soon as the party began because we were worried about the baby becoming cranky. We served the food for the guests pretty much after my baby smashed her own smash cake (made from a box mix, decorated by my friend). All food was served at the same time.

After food, we all just hung around and caught up with each other. There was a bounce house (borrowed from a family member) for the kids, and we had a caricature artist draw keepsakes for the attendees. We had personlized goody bags for the 5 kidss. A friend took video of the event. All the guests recorded a message for the baby. Some of my family members had created a balloon wall and put up decorations, so that was a good photo op background. That was it. My baby was in a good mood and things went well. She basically went off to sleep after smashing her cake. The party was for us and our family members. My baby really did not care. The cost and organization was mostly my MIL/mom. Family pitched in. We did this at a community center because I did not have the bandwidth to do it in our own house.

Sandwich trays (Panera would work, we had nice ones from Cosi, but those seem to have gone away), a salad tray, cake. As others have said, the first birthday is for the adults.

Sub trays, fruit, salad, cheese platter, and cupcakes. The food was mostly adult-oriented but the kiddos could easily snack on the fruit and cheese. Pizza is another good option.

Op here: thanks everyone! I think we decided on sandwich trays from a local shop, big salad, charcuterie board and chips and cake.

Sounds perfect OP. Happy birthday to your LO and congrats on the milestone. I still remember how getting to 1 year felt like a victory

I did bagels/brunch for my children’s 1st birthdays. Bagels, lox/tuna/cream cheese platters. Salad. Grilled vegetables. Cheese platter. Coffee, orange juice, mimosas.

Dessert was birthday cake, some sweets, fruit.
