Food, Cooking, and Restaurants

I have two boys, ages 12.5 and 10. The 12yo is starting to have a ravenous/teenager-type appetite recently, and his brother isn't far behind.
We will have a 13yo European exchange student at our house for a few weeks next month and I assume he too will be a big eater. DH and I are good cooks and have no trouble coming up with good dinners. When school is out, though, I'm always a bit stumped about lunch. Sandwiches seem so boring. What kinds of things do you have around the house for lunch? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks! |
| Hmm, maybe you can do some grilled chicken breasts and put them in the fridge for the boys to make chicken sandwiches. The protein should fill them up more than a few pieces of lunch meat would. Veggies/dip, hummus/pita, sliced cheese w/ baked crackers are good snacks. Lots of fruit - apples, grapes, bananas, maybe slice up a large watermelon for them to grab one piece from the fridge for a quick snack. |
| Have you asked them? You might be surprised they are OK with sandwiches everyday and it would save you some work. |
