Lunch

I have two boys, ages 12.5 and 10. The 12yo is starting to have a ravenous/teenager-type appetite recently, and his brother isn't far behind.

We will have a 13yo European exchange student at our house for a few weeks next month and I assume he too will be a big eater.

DH and I are good cooks and have no trouble coming up with good dinners. When school is out, though, I'm always a bit stumped about lunch. Sandwiches seem so boring.

What kinds of things do you have around the house for lunch? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

Hmm, maybe you can do some grilled chicken breasts and put them in the fridge for the boys to make chicken sandwiches. The protein should fill them up more than a few pieces of lunch meat would. Veggies/dip, hummus/pita, sliced cheese w/ baked crackers are good snacks. Lots of fruit - apples, grapes, bananas, maybe slice up a large watermelon for them to grab one piece from the fridge for a quick snack.

Have you asked them? You might be surprised they are OK with sandwiches everyday and it would save you some work.
