I am taking my 15 year old daughter to NYC, when its a good time to visit?
This month okay or wait til summer? where are some good places to go eat and visit? |
Just check the weather forecast - this looks like it will be a nice weekend. If you can steal away a weekday it will be much less crowded.
I really like (but so does everyone else) Brooklyn Bridge Park. It's a nice walk with a stellar view of Manhattan. You can have Grimaladi's or Juliana's pizza. Also explore Dumbo which is adjacent and very cute. If you stay on the Brooklyn side, also check out Williamsburg for hipster eateries/boutiques. Domino Park is also great. |
Now is nicer than summer. I love NYC, but it gets a little stinky in summer.
OTOH, it gets less crowded in the summer. A couple of questions: Have you been there before? What's she interested in? Will she want to see any famous tourist sites, or will she be more interested in walking around cool neighborhoods? |
My teen DS enjoyed the pizza tour. |
2 weeks ago DD & I had great luck with day before discount Broadway tickets online. Not hugely discounted, but available front row balcony ( my favorite Broadway seat). |
sounds good, will try to go next week , a mental health day after the SOL Test are done will be nice. |
Don't go in the Summer. It gets super crowded (90% tourists) and it does stink (drains).
if you go now - early June it will be quieter. We normally pick an area and then do stuff within a certain range. Last time my DD (15) and I stayed on the Upper East side, went to the Guggenheim, Neue Museum, Met, Corner Bookstore, 92nd St Y (literary events) and stayed at the Franklin Hotel (we had points). Previously we stayed at the Marriot which is opposite the 9/11 rebuild and did a lot more downtown things, like the Smithsonian Native American Art museum, etc and before that we stayed at the Lucerne on the upper West, went to the Natural History Museum, Kid Museum (younger years) and the zoo in the park. |
