Any thoughts? Any experiences? |
I would stay at crossfield and do level 4 if you like the school. Navy aap is overrated. |
Crossfield is a high SES school, so there's not a significant difference in curriculum or quality of student peers. The main variance is going to be the quantity; with multiple AAP classes, teachers are better able to collaborate with each other and potentially come up with more encompassing projects. Further, there is a mixture in students on a year-to-year basis, whereas with a LLIV, your child will have predominantly the same classmates until middle school. |
There is zero collaboration among the AAP teachers at Navy. Beginning in 4th, they all departmentalize so only one teacher teaches math, one does LA. Etc |
Which is a benefit in that kids are receiving specialized instruction at Navy. |
Pros and cons of both schools:
Crossfield is a fantastic school with a small school family feel. Teachers, staff are nice and caring. XF had very limited after school activities. Navy comes across as snobbish and a lot more cutthroat, so maybe a good option if you want to prep the kids for Middle school. Navy had a wide range of before and after school options. FWIW: we picked XF and were happy with our call. Middle School was a rude awakening and it was tougher to get into after school clubs. |
Agree. If we had to do it all over again, we would pick crossfield. |
Stay where you are. Either choice will end up at Carson. |
Navy is not worth it and naturally bright kids are competing with uber-preppers. The teachers don’t collaborate so it’s a lot of upheaval of a kid’s life for not much. Wish we had made a different decision. |
+10000 what this person just said. Navy is full of uber-preppers. Also the kids will wind up at Carson anyway. Not worth it especially of you have multiple kids. I have no idea what the person is talking about after school activities. Those are just extra things you pay for like chess, dance, xumba etc. Nothing really that special at all. |
Navy seems a bit crowded and we have large class sizes currently. If Crossfield has smaller classes, I would stay. Last years 6th grade AAP classes had 32-33 kids. Its also very homework heavy. The teachers were ok but not worth changing schools over. |
The uber-preppers are a huge problem. |
What is uber-preppers? |
Prepping everything. Parents gunning for Algebra 1 in sixth grade. |
Parents prep for the iready..🙄 |
