| I would like to get a reasonably supportive mattress for a guest room bed, queen. We don’t have a bed yet so I don’t care if it requires a box spring or not. Very occasionally someone will end up sleeping in this room if there’s an illness (COVID, coughing all night, etc.) so we don’t want a crap mattress, but I don’t want to spend $2k on it either since we have a lot of furniture to buy for a new house (my son is stealing the current double guest bed because he wants a “big” bed).My grandmother also visits, and at almost 90 and she needs a mattress she doesn’t completely sink into. Just bought the Novaform 14" Serafina Pearl Gel Memory Foam Mattress from Costco for our guest room. It's a firm mattress. It's getting rave reviews from our guest who have used it.

| Costco - best value around (or whatever place you are a member, BJs, Sam's, etc) |
| Costco-we bought the cheapest one and ALL of our guests comment on how comfy it it! We are buying a second one for our bedroom. |
Second this!!! |
No, don't buy this. It will break down quickly. |
OP is only using it occasionally so it will be fine. We have had this mattress 2 years so far and it’s still going strong. Btw we are big people. |
| If you want a mattress from a box, no boxspring needed, I'd go for Tuft & Needle original. It's firmer than the Leesa original, and more comfortable than the Casper original. I haven't tried all the new versions of these brands! We got the Tuft & Needle for my kid, as little ones are supposed to sleep on a firmer mattress. But I've slept on it and it was still comfortable. (I prefer slightly softer.) Saatva is supposed to be good as well. |
| We got a foam mattress and have been happy. I made sure to get one not too heavy because we wanted to be able to bring it downstairs for and older relatives visiting. we paired it with simple collapsible frame from amazon so no need for a boxspring. We may decide to covert it to a murhpy bed at some point, so mattress weight was still a consideration. I have slept on it during covid illness and have been happy with it |
We had to get rid of ours after three years, it was so terrible. OP - please, for the love of god, buy a regular spring mattress (not foam) for your guests. They will thank you. |
Thanks—I kind of despise the feel of foam mattresses anyway and will do either a hybrid or traditional innerspring. OP |
Mmmm....almost 2600 4.5 to 5 star reviews on the Costco website disagrees with you. But hey, what do I know. All I can tell you is we love it. |
