When will we get threaded replies and comment voting?

When will we get threaded replies and comment voting?

This 20 year old bump style single threaded post structure means that posts get overrun by persistent trolls, and the only way to express disapproval is to spam the thread, and branching conversation get all mixed up with each other.

Unfortunately, probably never. Just a simple mobile-friendly redesign has caused major distress among many of our posters. Expecting them to tolerate even more change is asking too much.

I disagree with your premisses, however. If there is a troll, report them. Also, just how do you think comment voting will work with anonymous posters? If trolls currently spam threads, certainly they will simply vote multiple times on comments. They will up vote their own posts hundreds of times. So, what you are really asking is, "when will DCUM require logins". Again, probably never.

I appreciate that, Jeff. If I wanted up and down votes, I’d be on Reddit. I appreciate the new design a lot, though!

The Daily Mail (blushes) has an upvote/downvote system where you don't have to log in and you can only vote once. This is actually a problem when you actually like or hate something by mistake, because you can't change it back (maybe you can if you log in, but I don't know about that).

But, I'm happy with things the way they are.

This is most certainly done by giving you a cookie that shows that you voted. All you would have to do is delete the cookie and vote again. Many users have their browsers set to block cookies so they can probably already vote as many times as they like. Or, just use incognito mode and you can probably vote multiple times.

Voting could be available only for logged-in users, or could be IP-based.

Then it would be useless because no one logs in here.

I’d love to see a poll option.

Just like the voting idea, polls don't work with anonymous users. A single person can vote hundreds of times.

I’m very happy with how the forum is.

They could but for most things why would they.

Why do people sockpuppet? Why do they "+1" their own posts? I'm not a human behavior specialist. I only know what people do, not why they do it.

If I could comment vote, I would give this a thumbs up. But I’m glad that I can’t.

Why are you accusing +1 posters of sock puppeting? Does it distress you when people agree with other posters you disagree with?

+1. Really appreciate the move to a mobile friendly version.
