DD got some bloodwork back and her iron is low, as well as ferritin levels. She is an athlete so this needs to be higher than the average person. Looking for ideas to get this up... |
Did you Dr, not give you a list of iron-rich foods? Weird. Anyway, google a list of foods, but for a supplement I took Flora-Dix (it's a liquid that you can find at Yes Organic). It helped to increase my iron quickly without the constipation issues. I always ate a small orange with my dosage. |
Drink beer juice. It's very earthy and takes some getting used to. I dilute it with water. |
Meat and leafy greens like spinach are the best sources of iron. So a lot of standard meat/veg/salad/starch meals are good for this. Supplements can also help if you’re already maxed out on the meat and make you want to eat. |
Cook your food in a cast iron pan and make sure the iron rich food is paired with Vitamin C to increase absorption. |
iron rich foods, vitron-c as an iron supplement, minimize nsaid use (Motrin, alive), you can also talk to her dr (or a gyn) about iv iron infusions. |
Red meat, dark meat poultry, dried figs, raisins, dried apricots, dark chocolate, black strap molasses, beans
Also try to separate out foods high in calcium when she is eating foods high in iron. They inhibit each other’s absorption |
