| I am looking for suggestions for a kid that is not athletic at all. DC is interested in trying out some sports although child is really not good at them. Any suggestions as to some sports my kiddo could tryout without any judgment and perhaps those that are NOT so competitive at Blair? Are there any sports in high school that kids do to just be active but not necessarily compete? DC will be coming to Blair SMCS in the fall outside of MCPS. Child tried soccer in elementary years and was terrible at it so that discouraged the child. DC tried summer swimming, always came last. I don't know how to help. Are there any sports programs within MCPS or outside MCPS child could try during the summer to hone some skills. |
| I don’t know about Blair in particular, but cross country seems to be a pretty “welcoming” sport. |
Agreed, cross country and indoor/outdoor track are your best bets. |
| Bocce! or other corollary sports. |
The hardest part with sports is you can't do any other ECs, it seems like. For example, DC is on the Math and Robotics Teams but to participate in a sport would have to give these up since they require you to do every day and are at the same time. Am I missing something? |

Blair Crew, which is open to other schools, seems welcoming when I contacted them but they conflicted with other sports/activities so mine couldn't do it.
Swim is tuff just as a high school sport. Most kids who swim do it year round with clubs and swim 3-8+times a week. |
| There is coed volleyball - seems less competitive than boys or girls volleyball |
| Ultimate frisbee is a great option |
Like crew, ultimate is a club at Blair and not a school sponsored sport. This is a good suggestion, but probably requires more athleticism than crew. Cross country does not have cuts, but winter and spring track usually do. |

Crew is not a club sport at Blair or any other high school. It’s a great activity, but McPS doesn’t sponsor school based club sports.
These are community run and supported teams. |
Have you watched Blair’s coed volleyball team? They are really athletic and play at a high level. Blair and the rest of the DCC have very competitive coed teams. I’d recommend cross country. Track actually has cuts at Blair. Maybe ultimate frisbee or bocce, like the other PPs said. |

How about Chess? Do they have a Chess team? |
| For the largest school in Maryland, their teams are just okay. The football team is usually good. I would have him try out for whatever sport interests him. |

Every sport at Blair is tough to join. Cross country may allow your child to run with the team but it will be very difficult to go to meets. The school had several recruited runners this year and I'm not surprised because it's highly competitive.
Swim and soccer are out of the question. They have aggressive time cuts for swim. Soccer is probably the most popular sport and there were about 150 boys who tried out last year and from the looks of it basically all were club players. Even kids on high level travel teams did not make it. Crew just won some championships. Your child can join but may not be on the main boat or get to row in regattas. The practices are really far though. |
| Can you tell us more about ultimate? |
