Has anyone used this service? Things are getting a bit stressful in my in-laws home and we could use some support but they are a bit combative, either refusing all help or throwing up their hands and saying “we’ll just go to a nursing home!” I know there are options in the middle and would like some help finding them. |
If they are willing to go to residential-pounce. That is the easiest option for you. They would not need a nursing home. look into CCRC with AL, Memory care etc. Have not used lionHeart but have used age in place business and it's a scam. They sell the parents the moon and make them all giddy. They contract with a bunch of places. It is not well-vetted. They make residential sound like prison and fail to mention what things look like aging in place-very much alone and vulnerable without witnesses around. It's truly horrible when you have to deal with stealing, no-shows, meals not showing up etc. Forget the middle. They need to age around peers and have FRIENDS and be forced to use their social skills to keep forming brain connections. It's not the same as someone paid to out up with you. They need the social activities and a dining service. |
My hope was to find a service that could explain the various options. I’m not against continuing care and agree it’s a good idea in the future but I don’t want them to rush into it either. They actually live in a condo building with many friends, moved in about 4 years ago so the social aspect is covered for now. |
Ohhh that is good that they have friends in the building. Makes a big difference. The dream is as some friends move to AL, they decide to go to the same place. Yeah, so I don't know LionHeart, but just make sure it isn't a place that will use scare tactics when it comes to residential. It's not good for business if people stop using their contractors, but you want a place ethical enough to do right by your family. Nobody needs to hear horror stories about places from 20 years ago. Make sure they know of a few good places for AL or MC that when the time comes they can talk up to your parents and make them excited and not frightened. My mother was told horror stories from this woman working at a place in another state 10 years ago. Meanwhile her friend moved to a nice AL in her area and has made new friends, eats great gourmet food at the dining room and goes to cultural events. My mother never knew that could exist in a AL, She assumed they were all houses of horror because her aging in place service made it sound that way. |
That is exactly is exactly what they do! I know several people who have used LionHeart Consulting and have been so happy. I looked and they offer free consultation so nothing to lose! Good luck! |
Yeah, those other places referenced above are free to you but they get paid by the places they refer to. The problem with that is that the places that pay referral fees are not the nicest places. It's better to pay a little up front and get what you want than make a costly mistake. |
Lionheart is fantastic and they have been a real godsend with my father-in-law. They really can take all the troubles out of your hands, even referring you to financial planners and estate attorneys they work with if there are financial matters that need to be put in order. |
