Moving to Del Ray with a 4 year old - daycare recommendations?

Anonymous
We will be moving to the Rosemont/Del Ray area with a 4 year old next fall. Would love to hear about recent experience with daycares in the neighborhood. We need full time and hope to find a place that prioritizes outdoor learning/play. Thanks!

We love Discovery Time! Every time I pick my child up they are outside, unless the weather is really horrible. Loving and warm staff, good communication, great environment with lots of fun activities -- they also offer soccer and gymnastics and music classes for a small extra fee, and the best perk is Parents Night Out (weekend evening babysitting 1x a month). I pay $1750 for an older toddler.

The only downside is their hours do not go very late. This was fine when we worked from home but now I am back in the office and it is a bit of a rush in the evening. But well worth that inconvenience for the rest of the upsides.

Sorry, hit send too soon. Their hours are 7:30-5:30. I think it used to be 6:00 before the pandemic but because of tight staffing numbers they have not gone back and close at 5:30

We went to madison day school from 4 months until PreK and couldn’t have been happier. Many of our teachers were there the entire time, which I know is rare.

Thanks!

We have been at Discovery Time for three years with two kids, one who is now in k and another who is four and I honestly can’t recommend it anymore. We were initially very happy but they have had crazy teacher turnover, the communication is bad, and some of their politics are ridiculous. Teachers are still in masks and parents can’t come in the classroom. Throughout covid, they seemed to cater to some demographic of parents who were super super vigilant, which was in my opinion to the detriment of the other, more rational families. We are moving to another school as soon as we can get a spot.

PP -- agree with the bolded but IMO it has calmed down to the point that I'm comfortable

You may want to consider an alternative area unless you are planning to send your kid to private. ACPS is a mess.
