| The deadline for non-tenured teachers to resign is May 1st and our school has not announced anything about staffing movements next year (if we will have to switch grade levels), or told us if we will still be departmentalized. Shouldn't these things be addressed BEFORE people will be penalized for breach of contract. I do not want to stay if I am not in my grade level and I feel like I have a right to know this information before being penalized for resigning. When asked, our principal claims he has the right not to tell us until June, which very well be the case. However, MCPS is trapping untenured teachers into their positions by doing so and it is absolutely disgraceful. |
| What does your principal say when you ask? I can’t see being faced with “I have a right not to say.” That is not a school I would want to work at. |
DP, but to chime in, it makes it worse that MCPS currently seems to be stalling hiring right now despite posting new jobs hourly. It is infuriating. I'm ready to take a paycut and switch counties because of this. |
Just tells us he doesn't have to make a decision until June 1st, so wait until then. I have no idea if this is true or not. HR hasn't replied back even though I emailed over a month ago. I followed up again last week and no word. |
Oh no. I hate to be a conspiracy theorist, but I wonder if this is a way to keep people from jumping ship. Otherwise, it's a poorly run school. Either way, it's not respectful to staff to not be transparent. It just makes things worse. I personally stopped waiting around for MCPS to get back to me for summer (my school isn't offering a summer program) and I found an outside job. I still don't know what I am teaching either next year for my new school, but I know at least the department.
|
| Sounds fake as our school has released several good teachers and no update on how those classes will be done. If you want to apply out, apply. |
I feel like it definitely is a way to keep people from leaving. If HR won't respond, you should file a complaint with the state. At the bare minimum teachers should know their positions for the upcoming school year in order to make informed decisions before being potentially penalized. |
Why would I waste time on a Saturday to make a fake post about a very real issue that has an upcoming deadline? Just because YOUR school is on top of their game, doesn't mean all schools are. You sound completely clueless. For the record, I am applying out but if you haven't seen the entire thread and various other posts about MCPS being behind on HR, then maybe educate yourself first before jumping to conclusions. |
How do you know OP ISN'T applying out? The actual issue here is that MCPS and schools are not being transparent about the upcoming school year despite the fact the non-tenured penalty deadline is on Monday. Get your head of the sand and wake up to reality. |
| I’m an incoming MCPS teacher with friends currently teaching. I keep hearing about openings they have in their departments that are not being posted to Careers, so I don’t know what’s happening. I’d like to be able to apply to jobs too! |
| Mcps is so toxic- you should work elsewhere |
| I'm still fairly new and in my first school. Where should it be posted/announced? I know we were told if we could stay based on the new allocations but that's it. No official word on who's out, unless someone told me directly. |
| My school had a significant amount of teachers placed on the involuntary transfer list. This will probably lead to a lot of movement of staff staying on to fill in the gaps. I was told a month ago I would be told what I will be teaching next year, yet nothing ever game. Lots of uncertainty and frustration. |
Sounds like MCPS is almost being run like a private company because that's exactly what they'd do. |
I know, but where else can you work half the year and take another month of leave without getting fired? |
