Does a B in dual enrollment course affect medical school?

Anonymous
My DS is a high-school senior. Does a B in dual enrollment course from last year affect any graduate school application? It is not a pre-requisite but for advanced math. We are hearing that all college credit courses need to be reported for medical school and hurt GPA. any thoughts or experience?

What is a dual enrollment course?

Whether or not it will be considered, I would not stress about one B.

I think that it refers to a high school student who takes a course at a local college during the high school year. The student is dual enrolled (high school and at the local college).

One or two B's should not be an issue as long as the rest of the grades are in the A range

Yes it does need to be reported on the AMCAS (online common med school application), or at least it did a few years ago, they specified that every college transcript needs to be included. And your dual enrollment will generate a transcript.

No it will not sabotage chances med school application if you make a B.

I understand your concern as my DC got a B in Bio in the first year but in the end, in didn't matter. Just do the best you can. There's also the option of applying to DO schools which in general have lower GPAs and MCATs.

Thank you all for your responses. It helps to ease him as he was very upset due to linear algebra ‘B’ which he did DE in high-school junior year. His fear is if colleges see the first row as high-school in AMCAS and grade B will reduce his any chance. Otherwise he is a good student with good gpa, test scores etc. We do not know till yesterday that medical schools look at those.

Thankful to this forum and wonderful responses.

NO,
College credit taken while in high school is not part of GPA calculation for the university, he will just get credits.
In another words he will start with clean slate as freshman.

They only do if you apply to some type of early assurance medical program
