What are your favorite nonfiction books about sports? I just finished Kara Goucher's The Longest Race and loved it - highly recommend. It's Kara's memoir that delves into her experience as an elite marathoner/5,000/10,000m runner with the Oregon Project, under the direction of now-disgraced coach Alberto Salazar.
Any sport is fair game, as well as topics related to sports like doping, etc. |

Des Linden’s book, of course!
Also Boys in the Boat. |
| Lords of the Realm |
| John Thompson’s “I Came As A Shadow” (legendary basketball coach at Georgetown). It was an excellent read! |
|
Andre Agassi's memoir
John Feinstein's books The Jordan Rules by Sam Smith |
|
The Greatest Game Ever Played. (About the Harry Vardon/Francis Ouimet U.S. Open). SO much better than the movie (which was a Disneyfied travesty).
Anything by John Feinstein, but especially Open, and A Good Walk Spoiled. Slow to Get Up, by Nate Jackson Ball Four, by Jim Bouton A Whole Different Ball Game, by Marvin Miller (more about baseball labor than baseball) Curt Flood’s book about the same topic (I can’t remember the name of it right now) |
| I enjoyed the new biography of Jim Thorpe, A Path Lit by Lightning |

Boys in the Boat and Born to Run are two faves offhand.
Not really a sports book - but there is a sports element in Unbroken I'll add Kara Goucher's book to my list. |
