Watch out! A homeowner in Chevy Chase nearly pet a bear he mistook for a dog

The NIH Bear is back! Warn your neighbors!

A homeowner in Chevy Chase, Maryland, said he nearly pet a bear he mistook for a dog in his backyard Wednesday night.

The homeowner, who did not want to be identified, said he heard a noise in his backyard in the area of Woodlawn Road and Spring Valley Road and thought it was his neighbor's dog. When he went outside to investigate, he got within inches of the animal and nearly pet it before realizing it was a bear, he said.

He then ran back inside and called police.

Dafuq that he called the police! Was he thinking that it was an unlicensed bear, disobeying the leash law?

I have a friend who's a police dispatcher. She got a call once: "I saw a cougar!!" She said, "Cool! I wish I'd seen the cougar."

If you live amongst bears, put your organic garbage in the freezer until garbage day and bring your bird feeders in at night. And don't try to pet the bears! (He nearly petted it. He didn't nearly pet it.)

Was on Byeford in Kensington and then another sighting on Spring Valley in Chevy Chase. So either he got across Connecticut Avenue or there’s more than one bear.
