Democrat alternatives to Biden/Harris: Yes, I know they just announced and I'll support them, but ..

I know Biden/Harris just announced and I'll support them (though the ads were vacuous)--I admire Biden's Build Back Better and his priorities are mine: health care (including abortion), preserving and strengthening Social Security and Medicare, no more tax cuts for the rich, etc.
BUT.
If Biden stumbles, literally, or gets sick, who's on deck?
I really like Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio paired with Gretchen Whitmer.

If Biden/Harris had strong primary opponents, it would strengthen them (they'd have to defend themselves) and we could end up with a Texan (Beto O'Rouke?) and a Southerner like Raphael Warnock. And then there'd be a lot more enthusiasm behind the ticket.

Another thread on this? Now that Biden announced there’s no way that anyone else gets nominated.

Gretchen Whitmer but I think 2028 is going to be her year to run.

She's doing great things in MI. Even some of my conservative Michigander relatives approve of her.

There will be no primary debate. Do you honestly think a Newsom or Whitmer plan to challenge? Really?

Whitmer or klobs

Sherrod won’t run

Booker is weird

Newsome is a greasy/sleazy and not relatable to rustbelt

As Obama said, “Pete is too short and too gay”

At Biden’s age, you never know if you’ll wake up tomorrow

I think op meant if Biden couldn’t run somehow

Love her.

Why not take some interest in the Senate, House, Governors, and state legislators, instead of obsessing over who will be the Democratic President that can’t get much done. It doesn’t much matter which Democrat is President if Congress can’t pass legislation or confirm appointees and states are empowered by the Supreme Court to ignore and nullify federal laws.

Stop trying to make fetch happen: Beto will never win an election…any election. Move on.

I want to know who put RFKjr up to running? Is someone secretly bankrolling him, or is he just bored and delusional?

This is historically not true. Incumbents that faced strong primary challengers ended up losing the general election. And no one is going to seriously challenge Biden now. This was a good analysis of why Biden is the strongest choice for now: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/26/podcasts/the-daily/biden-2024-election.html

My Gen-Z DC likes Pete.

There is no but. We all need to get 1000% behind Biden. We can’t risk anything or we’ll have Trump & DeSantis and slide fully into fascism.
