Hello all
My son received a 3 credits of world language exam in middle school and now he is admitted to TJ. The language that he received 3 credits is not offered at TJ so he cannot receive a total of 4 credits. In this case, would you let it be or would you pick another language and start over for 4 credits total at TJ? I heard a total of 4 credits are needed for ivy league colleges. any suggestions are welcome Thank you |
Can’t you test out of it? |
how would we do it? |
3 credits in foreign language is just fine. My kid only went up to 3rd year language and got into Stanford. No awards/competitions etc |
If you’re allowed to attempt the world credit language exam again, kid can try to get that 4th year credit? |
this is what it says on the website. " Students who take the exam may earn up to three World Languages credits for levels one, two, and three for the language of the exam." so 3 credits is maximum |
Thats good to know. Thank you for sharing |
Is it a language he learned outside of a school context?
I have heard that colleges are interested in challenge, not skill, so they will want to see that he studied a language from the beginning. We are in a similar situation. |
Yes, but Stanford isn't ivy league. ![]() |

Got into the HYP applied to as well…Vanderbilt, UVA too. Didn’t apply to others after found out got into Stanford REA. |
