Weird sensation in chest

Anonymous
I have been noticing this weird feeling middle to left side of my chest. The only way I can describe it is the sensation when you are falling on a roll a coaster and your stomach bottoms out. It is that exact same feeling but I feel like it is in my chest. I looked it up online and many things suggested it was due to anxiety. I don't necessarily feel anxious when it happens, seems random. Too much caffeine seems to aggravate it. Anyone feel something like this? And I know I should go to the doctor, I have an appointment with my OBGYN next week and plan on mentioning it to her.

Does it seem like your heart skips a beat and then there is a strong contraction? It could be a PAC, which is what I experienced for a few weeks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premature_atrial_contraction

That said, if you think you have a heart issue, please see a doctor. That's the only way to make sure you stay safe.

Definitely see a Dr. That said, I have been having CRAZY symptoms/pain-sometimes sharp in the chest area radiating all over and I figured out it was heartburn. This will sound so odd, but I noticed if I burped a few times the pain went away. I started taking an over the counter heartburn med with digestive enzymes as needed and I stopped eating 2 hours before going to bed and the pain went away. No issues anymore. I really think for me this all residue stuff from a C section. A nurse told me you can have all sorts of odd gas pains..of course that was right after the C section and this is several years later...

See a doctor, by all means. It could be due to many causes.
It could be PAC, like PP said. I have that too.
It could be blocked gas, especially if it is accompanied by sharp pain, and then goes away after a few hours.
If you think it is anxiety, stand up straight! That opens your diaphragm and is an instant relaxant. Slow your breathing, breathe more out than in, visualize, meditate, etc...

Does this happen more often after you have just eaten? It does sound like a heartbeat skip. I get those sometimes after I eat. Just feel your pulse when you feel that happen and see if you can tell it skipping. I've been to Dr. about that when it first happened to me in my teens, and they didn't find anything wrong.

OP here, I do have reflux/heartburn but take prilosec daily for it, it is a new feeling within the last few weeks. It seems to happen more or I notice it more when I am sitting down. I didn't mean to sound like I am going to my Obgyn about it, I just happen to have an appointment this coming week with her so I thought I would start with asking her. Thanks for the thoughts, its. Just such an odd sensation I feel like something is just not right.

Heartburn is commonly confused with angina. So that's not odd.

OP are you recently post-partum? I experienced this after I had my second child. I'd be merrily driving along and bam, my heart would jump into my throat as if I had been suddenly startled. This happened several times a day. I asked my OB but she didn't know anything. I searched online and found information about pregnancy-related arrhythmia.
(sorry, not sure if that was what it was called.) I made an appt with a cardiologist and did the stress test and the whole nine yards. He didn't find anything amiss. After a couple of months the skipping went away. It was very disturbing while it was happening though. I would get it checked out anyway because you may have some other underlaying issue.
