Small SUV - Lo-Tech Interior

Anonymous
I'm helping my mom shop for a small SUV that is very reliable, and has a very simple interior dashboard. She does not operate any technology - no smartphone, no computer - so a dashboard with as few buttons and bells/whistles is what she would like. For reference, she used to have a 2007 Honda CR, and the interior was very lo-tech which she loved.

Any suggestions? She wants new, which I know adds another layer of complexity due to everything being technology based these days.

Budget is open.

Thanks

You're not going to avoid screens. Your best bet is to compare all the mainstream options. A lot of manufacturers have come to the realization that, while screens are good, some easily accessible and tactile knobs and buttons are important. So I'd just look at the usual suspects, like another CR-V or the RAV4. I have both, actually.

Obviously, avoid Tesla and all the cars that think you should operate everything from a touchscreen behind multiple menus, which is absurd.

And you never need to use Apple Car Play, but it's pretty intuitive, so if she were my mom, I wouldn't give up on that just yet.

I'm no greenie by any means, but I also recommend the hybrid versions of these cars. (I have it for both.) There's just no reason not to at this point, and there's absolutely nothing that she would need to do differently because it's a hybrid.

Mazda’s newer models are all buttons and knobs that work
by touch (versus the touchscreen idiocy that has overtaken so much car design)

Sounds like it may be time for mom to give up the keys.
