Outer Banks

I'm trying to plan a vacation for July or August and have nixed flying with our very active baby. Any advice on the Outer Banks? Is the drive doable? Is flying better? Where should we stay? Advice on activities? I'm a beach person, but DH is not, so ideally there would be a little of everything.

it is great, not like other places rent a house it is expensive, the dirve is fine when you do it at the right time.
