CTY over the summer for a high schooler?

Did your DC do it and did it work out? This is for a 2 wk sleepaway camp/class.

I did it when I was in 9th and 10th grades. Now this was 25 years ago at this point, but those were some of the best times I ever had. So nice to be around other nerdy gifted kids

Great program. But way overpriced and not worth multiples of other summer grifted or academically challenging summer enrichment. Between 2 kids, they did UVA SEP, WM NIHAD, Chincoteague Bay field station, Virginia Space Flight Academy and a summer Women in STEM program at VT. All were as good or better than CTY, and were much less expensive.

If I could do it over and had that much money to spend for a summer program, I would do outward bound, NOLS or a chaperoned study abroad instead.

My kid would have done CTY until he aged out at age 16 but his last 2 years were affected by the pandemic.
Then CTY raised their max-age to 12th graders. We had it as a backup in the summer between 11th and 12th grade, but got accepted into Governor's school instead.
Still speaks very fondly of the CTY residential camps from 5th to 8th grade. In HS, there are just so many other options.

What type of cost for the other programs you mention? I can’t contemplate thousands of dollars for a week or two. Anything more reasonable?

Have anyone taken online AP courses at CTY over the summer and receive credits from FCPS?

CTY costs have more than doubled. Can no longer justify the spend.

FCPS will not accept any CTY courses for high school credit. DD took Algebra I Honors through CTY and FCPS let her progress but would not count the grade (A) toward her GPA. The class was very challenging and covered a good chunk of material currently being taught in her Algebra II class.
