Please talk me down. I’m 52: diagnosed with osteoporosis at 49, menopause at 48. Small-to-fragile frame.
Under treatment for osteoporosis and have taken fosamax since diagnosed. Yesterday, while doing my doctor-ordered hard surface walking, I tripped and fell and broke my ankle. This is my first ever bone break. Using crutches and leg wrapped until I get a cast. I’m looking for words of wisdom from anyone else w/ osteoporosis who has broken a bone. I'm trying not to be overwhelmed, but am feeling scared about a potential lengthy recovery. I’ve already given up skiing and skating - two of my favorite things -since getting the osteoporosis diagnosis. Also feeling anxious about missing work and losing independence while I recover. I have a super helpful and loving DH and a DC who is happily looking after me and keeping me distracted. Nice people of dcum: help! |
Last week I rolled an ankle wearing dansko clogs. I was worried about the beginnings of osteoporosis but then found out it is really common. I have an avulsion fracture in my ankle. What type of fracture? How did you fall? Maybe it was just unlucky and doesn’t have anything to do with osteoporosis. |
OP back. I tripped over fallen limbs while hiking. Clean break.
