How early before an event can I bake cookies?

Anonymous

I’m supposed to take treats to my twin’s soccer practice Monday afternoon. One kid wants sugar cookies and the other wants M&M cookies. (I’m also taking apples and juice.)

I have a busy day tomorrow and won’t have time to make the cookies. How early can I make them? Is tonight okay?

Thanks for your advice!

Why are you doing snacks on a Monday before dinner? Is it their birthday or something? Post practice snacks are not a thing.

Freeze them.

Please don’t bring cookies and juice before dinner

You can bake today. Kids don’t care. They will eat them on Monday. Put a slice of bread in the container to keep them soft.

Day ahead is ok, but for 2+ days ahead, I’d freeze them. Second day frozen/defrosted is better than 2nd day sitting out.

Totally fine to do today..put them in containers with lids

They’ll be fine in an air tight container if you make them now but for future reference, cookies freeze really well. You need to wrap them very well and LEAVE THEM WRAPPED until they’re completely thawed. This is so condensation can form outside the wrapping and not get the cookies wet. Putting them in a Tupperware and then wrapping that in plastic wrap works great.

Oh one more tip, if you need to freeze them before they have time to cool all the way to room temp, freeze them on a baking sheet (lined with parchment) for an hour or so, not overlapping, before you put them in the Tupperware. If you put warm cookies in the Tupperware before freezing they might fuse together.

They will be fine; just keep each kind in a separate container with a good seal. Cookies with different moisture levels affect each other. Think about your holiday baking? Do you do all the cookies the day before or day of? Of course not.
