Outdoor furniture-how best to buy the most comfortable set and what to avoid

Anonymous
We are redoing our backyard and getting rid of theetal old outdoor set we have.

I am looking to buy a new set and unclear which direction to go, should I get sectionals? Love seats? Things to avoid?

I love to read so looking for something I can lounge in, read and also host gatherings.

Would love recommendations.

Thank you

People love the Costco sets. But I needed to actually sit on the couch we bought, so we went to Greenfont. Bought lots there, and then supplemented with inexpensive chairs from Home Goods (4 years and still look great), and another chair from World Market

People like like Yardbird, but we thought that the seats were too low (difficult to get out of as we are older), and, they all look the same

Thank you, Costco set looks so huge and also very common!

I am stopping at Lowe's later today to try a few and see what feels right. Do you cover your outdoor set when not in use?

We got ours from Lowes. I just liked the look and it was comfortable/affordable. Got it in 2008 and looks great (thought on a screened coovered porch.

Another vote for Costco. In the off season we remove the cushions and store them (washing the covers first), and we cover all of the furniture.

Out outdoor furniture is in a screened in porch, so now, we do not cover it.

We cover our patio Costco set whenever we aren’t actively using them. The set is three years old but looks brand new. Light gray fabric covered cushions on metal frames. Love them. It’s not the prettiest when everything is covered but I cannot even imagine the state of the cushions if I didn’t.

If you have upholstery, you need to cover it here or it will always be wet/dirty when you want to use it. If it will be in the shade, I would also get Sunbrella with zip off covers so you can wash them with bleach if/when they get mildewed.

NP. What cover do you use? We have a cover for ours, but it's a bit of a hassle.

OP--You definitely want to go somewhere to try out the seating. We had great success at Belfort. Lots of options and they each do feel different in terms of comfort. We keep ours covered whenever it's not in use. I can't imagine how gross it would be with all the pollen this year if we didn't have it covered.

You're definitely gambling if you buy without trying first. Different chairs and sofas fit differently, and if they have cushions those, too, will vary with regard to perceived comfort. Seating surfaces can also be metal, fabric (sling-style), wood, or poly, which all feel different and come in different widths and depths.

Warehouse Showrooms, 5641 k General Washington Dr, Alexandria, Virginia, 703-941-5822, is a Polywood dealer and has a fairly good selection on display. They also discount.

We went with the IKEA applaro set which looked modern and cool to me. Everything basically fell apart in a year. Doh.

I things a good quality sling chair will hold up better than a cushion
